READY WHEN YOU ARE

How to customize a resume template and download a free PDF.

Choose a free resume template, enter your own content and download the finished resume as a PDF without paying. A free Funtoolio account is required before creating or exporting. There is no card, trial or last-minute download charge.

1. Choose a template and sign in

Browse the free resume templates without an account. Choose Classic, Modern or Compact, then use its “sign in free” action. The selection is retained through common Funtoolio sign-in. Elegant is an experimental visual preview; switch to a single-column template to export.

This is a browser builder, not a collection of Word files. It produces PDF output and editable ResumeFree JSON backups; it does not provide DOCX or Google Docs template downloads.

2. Add and review your content

Start with your name, title and optional contact details. Add a summary, work experience, education and skills, then include projects, certifications, languages or volunteer work where useful. Move sections and items with their up/down controls. Hidden optional sections keep their text but do not appear in the exported resume.

Choose a readable font, dark accent, line spacing and margins. If you change the layout, your content stays intact. Applying a template’s typography defaults is a separate action, so switching templates does not unexpectedly overwrite your chosen font settings.

3. Select A4 or US Letter

A4 and US Letter have different dimensions, so the same text may break onto pages differently. Select the intended size before exporting. Compact, standard and generous margins are 12, 16 and 20 millimetres. Review long entries and the last page; do not rely on a screen preview as proof that one-page output will fit.

4. Save the PDF locally

If the builder offers Download PDF, it generates the document in your browser. An exact PDF preview is available with that engine; wait for it to update after editing. Direct download is unavailable in installations where the PDF engine is not ready, and the builder says so.

Print / Save as PDF is the alternative. It opens a print-ready view and the browser’s own dialog. Select a PDF destination, match the paper size to your selection and turn off browser-added headers and footers. Inspect the dialog preview before saving. Browser settings can affect pagination; cancel, adjust and retry if a page is clipped.

On phones, the save/share controls depend on the browser and operating system. Open the browser’s print/save options and choose the local PDF/file destination if offered. If your mobile browser does not provide that option, keep a JSON backup and finish in a browser with PDF saving. ResumeFree does not upload your resume as a fallback.

5. Check attribution and text

“Created with ResumeFree” is an optional footer. Uncheck it before export if you want a document without that attribution; removing it is free. Open the saved file and confirm the footer is absent. Select and copy a few lines to check readable text, including any accents in your name.

The ATS-friendly template guide has a reading-order checklist. No layout promises acceptance by every application system.

Keep an editable JSON backup

A PDF is your finished document. Download resume-data.json to keep the editable content, order and appearance settings. You can import it into ResumeFree after signing in on another browser. Imports are validated before replacing the current draft; download that draft’s backup first if you want both versions.

Browser saves can disappear when site data is cleared or private browsing ends. A JSON file is your portable backup, and may contain personal information. Store and share it with the same care as your resume.
